Services held for Ralph Lybbert
Funeral services for Ralph Lybbert were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 7, at the United Methodist Church in Cresco. Interment was in the Howard Center Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Holdorf, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Lime Springs, presiding. Honorary Bearers were Paul Grover, Thomas Schwarzhoff, Arnold Schmauss, Paul Haight, Russell Fitzgerald and Floyd Foote.
Ralph, 85, died Friday, July 4, 1997 at his home.
Ralph Fred Lybbert was born October 17, 1911 on a farm near Lime Springs, Howard County, the son of Fred A. and Merea (Klockow) Lybbert. He attended the Howard Center rural school, and helped his parents on the family farm.
On April 18, 1933 he was united in marriage to Marie Lovell at their home farm near Lime Springs. They had one daughter, Gayle. Ralph farmed most of his life, except for a few years when they moved into Cresco and he ran the John Deere Implement Company. Then he and his family moved back to the farm, where he spent the remainder of his life.
He was a lifelong member of the Bonair Methodist Church until its closing and then he joined the First United Methodist in Cresco. He held various offices in the Bonair Church and he was a long time member of the Farm Bureau. Ralph had a hobby of carpentry, and he loved to fish.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Marie; one daughter, Gayle Lybbert McLaughlin of St. Charles, MO; three grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Frank; four sisters: Erna Mohr, Rena King, Mabel Hite and an infant sister.
