Stephen Dotzler
Stephen Dotzler, son of John and Applonia Dotzler was born at South German Town, Wisconsin, Dec. 15, 1858 and passed away on October 5, 1942 at the home of his son Henry Dotzler at Howard Center, having reached the age of 83 years 11 months and 17 days.
He came to Howard county, Iowa with his parents at the age of 17 years and resided in this vicinity until his death. In the year 1879 he was united in marriage with Lena Link and to them were born nine children: his wife and two daughters Applonia and Pauline have preceded him in death.
Successful Farmer
Stephen was successful through the years taking a great interest in his children and grandchildren. He lived with his son Henry for the last 20 years of his life and helped the family while they took care of him. Three sons Henry, Edward and John and four daughters, Frances, Mary, Maggie and Carrie survive him, also 31 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and two sisters Mrs. John Rathert of Winnipeg, Canada, and Mrs. Ernest Gierke of Billings, Mo.
Services were held at the home of Henry Dotzler on Wednesday October 7, with the Reverend G. W. Turner, pastor of the Methodist church in Cresco, officiating. Burial at Howard Center at the spot he wished to be laid to rest.
Attended Funeral
Those from a distance attending the funeral services were Mrs. Mary Aberg and daughter Ileen of Detroit, Michigan; Steve Lickteig of Austin, Minnesota and Mrs. Karl Larson from Chicago, Ill.
Pall bearers were Fred Schmauss, Mahlon Culbert, Frank Zakotelecky, Ray Long, Frank Pecoy and Walter Hoopman.
