Al Tyler Former Cresco Man Dies In California
James Alfred Tyler, a former resident of Cresco, died in Chico, Calif., Sept. 20. This information was received by Chr. Forthun, secretary of the Cresco Odd Fellows lodge.
Deceased lived in Cresco as a young man, and was a graduate of the Cresco high school in 1880 in the first class to be graduated here. That same year he went to California and has resided there ever since. Although he was active in the Odd Fellows lodge in Chico he had retained his membership in the Cresco lodge through all these years.
He taught school in California for a number of years and later was an officer in a building association. D. W. Cooper, secretary of the Chico I. O. O. F. pays him this tribute: “No one will miss him more than this writer for I went to school to him 50 years ago and I have always considered him one of my closest friends and one of the best teachers that we ever had in Butte county.”
Mr. Tyler’s father and two brothers died in Cresco. He is survived by his wife and six children. He was about 80 years of age.
