Mrs. Tomena Benson

Funeral services for Mrs. Tomena Benson, who passed away at Mercy hospital Wednesday, were held at 1 o’clock at the Bradley funeral home in Cresco and at 1 at the United Lutheran church in Ridgeway Saturday afternoon. The pastor, Rev. A. W. Sorenson officiated. Pallbearers were Lars Rue, Casper Johnson, Victor Benson, Orlando Aga, Hans Opsal and Alton Sanderson. Russel Bakken sang two hymns at the service. Interment was in the Lincoln cemetery. Tomena Josephine Benson was born in Sumner Twp., Winneshiek county, October 20, 1895. She was the daughter of John S. Johnson and wife Ingaborg, nee Opsal. There were four children in the family. Mrs. Benson died after a year’s illness at Mercy hospital in Cresco Nov. 8, at the age of 49 years and 19 days. She was preceded in death by her husband, Olaf, her mother and one brother, Julius. She is survived by her father, John S. Johnson of Ridgeway; one sister, Mrs. Clarence Butz of Ridgeway; and one brother, Henry Johnson of Barrington, Ill. Tomena was baptized and confirmed in the Lincoln Lutheran church. On Feb. 19, 1923, she was united in marriage to Olaf Benson of Cresco by the Rev. D. C. Jordahl at the parsonage in Ridgeway. They lived 17 years in Howard county, and since the death of her husband, Tomena has made her home with her father in Ridgeway. Mrs. Benson was always a faithful member of the Lutheran church.
