Stanley N. Allen, 96, of Cresco, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Notre Dame Catholic Church with Father Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 at the church on Saturday. The American Legion Post #135 will accord military rites. The Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home 404 North Elm St. is in charge of arrangements. Stanley N. Allen was born on August 1, 1915 in Mabel, MN to Albert and Agnes (Gagen) Allen. On April 20, 1944 Stanley enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II. After he came home from tour in Italy, Stanley was honorably discharged on July 7, 1946. He married Arvilla Lageson on June 3, 1948 in Caledonia, MN. Together they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. Stanley enjoyed playing cards with friends, especially cribbage, watching sports on TV, and refinishing furniture. He was a member of the American Legion Post #135 for 66 years and the VFW. Stanley and Arvilla doted on their nieces and nephews, treating them as if they were their own children. His wife, Arvilla of Cresco, and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, and a great great great niece, and sister-in-law, Lorene Sartell of Mesa, AZ, survive Stanley. His parents, sisters, Sister Lorraine Allen, Theresa Schieffer, Audrey Hanson, and his brother Hillary preceded him in death.
