Albert W. Henke, 88, Native of Germany, Dies in Hospital
Funeral Services Yesterday for Aged Father of Eight; Burial at Howard Center
Albert W. Henke, 88, of Cresco, native of Germany, died in the Cresco hospital Sunday noon where he had been a patient since January 16. He had been in good health up until two days before entering the hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Henke were held at the Bradley Funeral home at 12:45 yesterday, followed by services in the Immanuel Lutheran church at 2:00. The Rev. Robert R. Ahrens, pastor, conducted the services and burial was in the Howard Center cemetery.
Albert William Henke, son of John and Henrietta Henke, was born March 18, 1864 at Colberg, Germany. He was baptized and confirmed in Germany, and at the age of 21 years he came to this country, coming directly to Howard county where his brother, August, lived.
He worked for a time in Preston, Minnesota. He was married to Edith Hanneman February 20, 1893, in a ceremony performed at Saratoga. They became the parents of eight children, all of whom survive.
Mr. and Mrs. Henke farmed for a while near Saratoga and Davis Corners, and in 1912 they purchased a farm in Albion township where they continued to live until retiring to Cresco in 1924. Mrs. Henke died July 14, 1948. Mr. Henke was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church for many years.
Surviving Mr. Henke are his children, Mrs. Raymond Mackenburg of Cresco, Mrs. Oscar Richter of Saint Paul, Carl Henke of Cresco, Elmer Henke, Elvin Henke and Arnold Henke, all of Austin, and Arthur Henke of Hanover, Illinois. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
