Mrs. Bertha Mackenburg Funeral Held Saturday

Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Mackenburg, 73, of Cresco, who died in the LaCrosse Lutheran hospital Thursday, were held at the Cresco Immanuel Lutheran church Saturday afternoon.

Conducting the funeral services was the pastor, the Rev. E. C. Franke. Burial was in the Howard Center cemetery with the Bradley Funeral home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Mackenburg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Henke, was born at Saratoga, Nov. 30, 1893. In infancy she was baptized in the former Davis Corner’s Lutheran church. Later she was confirmed in the same church. For the last 55 years, she was a member of the Cresco Immanuel Lutheran church.

She was married to Raymond Mackenburg in the home of her parents north of Cresco, March 31, 1914. Mr. and Mrs. Mackenburg spent most of their married lives on the farm. For the last 20 years Mrs. Mackenburg lived in Cresco.

Mrs. Mackenburg’s health began to fail almost one year ago. She entered the Cresco hospital the latter part of November and was transferred to the LaCrosse Lutheran hospital Dec. 19. She grew progressively worse and died last Thursday.

Surviving Mrs. Mackenburg are two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Richter of St. Paul, and Mrs. Esther Johnson of Harmony; three brothers, Elvin and Arnold Henke of Austin, and Arthur Henke of Hanover, Ill., and two uncles, Edward Hanneman of Cresco, and Ernest Hanneman of Decorah.

Preceding Mrs. Mackenburg in death were her parents; husband and two brothers, Carl and Elmer Henke.

Six of Mrs. Mackenburg’s nephews served as pallbearers, including Donald, Robert, Richard, Roger and James Johnson and Harold Richter.
