STONE

Benjamin Franklin Stone was born in Ithica county, N. Y., Feb. 28, 1834. In 1837 his parents moved to Michigan where he lived until he was 18 years old, when he went to Indiana and four years later, 1856, he came to Iowa, which state has since been his home. The time intervening between his arrival in Iowa and his demise has been almost wholly spent in Howard county. His entire time was spent in improving and developing the land which he chose as his home.

By his honesty, integrity and readiness to help a needy neighbor Mr. Stone won a warm affection in the hearts of his fellow man.

In 1862 he was married to Jane Irvine. Two children, one son and one daughter were sent to cheer the couple of their journey through life. These with his devoted and faithful wife and five grandchildren mourn the loss of a father, husband and grandsire.

Mr. Stone died at the home of his son Will Stone Sunday, March 8, at 1 p.m., and was buried in the Howard Center cemetery, Rev. Leonard Elver officiating. A large number of sympathizing friends and neighbors gathered to witness the last rites and cheer the sorrowing family in this hour of bereavement.
