Services held for Agnes Aga, 87
Funeral services for Agnes Aga of Ridgeway were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 4 at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway. Revs. Phillip Olson and Ginny Olson officiated. Interment was in the Lincoln Lutheran Cemetery in rural Ridgeway. Honorary pall bearers were: Andrew Olson, Kenneth A. Knutson, Lester Engen and Loren Rue. Pall bearers were: John Hove, Don McDowell, Raymond Anderson, Robert Hellum, Jim Casterton and Gerald Bakken. Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Agnes, 87, died Monday, January 1, 2001 at the Regional Health Services in Cresco.
Agnes Mildred Aga was born March 4, 1913, the daughter of Anon and Marie Anderson. She was baptized on March 24, 1913 and confirmed on July 3, 1927 at the Orleans Lutheran Church by Rev. Norman. Agnes attended grade school in Orleans Township, Winneshiek County. She attended high school in Ridgeway and graduated from Cresco High School. She attended normal training and taught school in Winneshiek County for six years.
On July 28, 1937 she married Norman Aga at the Ridgeway parsonage by the Rev. Norman. When Normie was five years of age Agnes returned to teaching for six years in Orleans and Sumner Townships, and at Ridgeway teaching Kindergarten. She started working in the office in the fall following her teaching a semester of Kindergarten and worked there for 18 years.
Norman’s health declined and he was hospitalized frequently and during this time Agnes worked part-time at the Howard County Hospital. Norman passed away on February 18, 1981.
Agnes’ memories included crocheting and knitting afghan’s{sic} for her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters: Mary Bergan of Osage and Normie Ferrie of Cresco; one son: David of Ridgeway; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Agnes was preceded in death by one sister: Hannah; and two brothers: Herbert and Spencer.
