LIME SPRINGS HERALD, Lime Springs, Iowa; May 23, 1957

Funeral Rites Held Saturday P.M. for Richard Morris, 80, of Lime Springs

Funeral services for Richard Morris were conducted Saturday, May 18, from the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Lime Springs, at 2 p.m. with the pastor Rev. Clifford Thaden officiating. The singers were Rev. and Mrs. Thaden, Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Thomas, Goldena Williams, and William Jones. The organist was Elizabeth Jones.

The deceased was laid to rest in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lime Springs. Serving as pallbearers were J. Ryce Jones, Leland Johnson, Archie Roberts, John Zidlicky, Milo Northness, and Myron Mertens.

Richard Morris, son of Hugh H. and Mary Morris, was the last surviving member of a family of six children. He was born at Bristol, Fillmore County of the state of Minnesota on August 30, 1876.

He spent his early youth on the home farm near Bristol, and later, with his parents, moved to a farm at Old Town.

On January 4, 1911, he was united in marriage with Ruth H. Roberts. The newly formed family lived on various farms near Lime Springs until 1943 when they retired and moved into town. Here they have resided continuously since.

To this union were born two children, one son and one daughter. The son, Sgt. Robert H. Morris, was killed in January of 1943. The daughter (Eunice) is now Mrs. Harold Nelson of near the village of Saratoga.

Mr. Morris made his profession of faith very early in life, a testimony to the thorough Christian training of his father and mother. His father served as an Elder of the Church for many, many years. Upon the public profession of his faith, Mr. Morris first became a member of the Welsh Church then located near Bristol Center. Upon retiring from the farm, and moving into town, he transferred his membership to the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Lime Springs. Of this Church he remained a member until the day of his death.

During the last two years, the feebleness natural to old age began to take its toll. Up until early last fall he was able to take his customary walks, and to attend the services of his Church. Although confined to his home, he enjoyed comparatively good health until about ten days ago, when he gradually became weaker and weaker.

He passed away very quietly and peacefully at this home last Wednesday afternoon, May 15th, having reached the ripened age of 80 years, 8 months, and 15 days. "A calm and undisturbed repose unbroken by the last of foes."

He leaves to mourn his passing his sorrowing widow and the one daughter, Eunice, now Mrs. Harold Nelson. Besides these are nieces and nephews and many friends who will long remember his cheerful disposition and his deep interest in life.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Flowers, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Larsen of Chicago, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Peterson, Ray Jacobs, and Agnes Jacobs, all of Forest City, Iowa.
