Bernard A. Schwartzhoff, age 82, of rural Lime Springs, Iowa died Tuesday, December 30, 1986 in the Howard County Hospital in Cresco, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday January 2 in Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco with the Rev. John J. Friederick officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with Conway Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Bernard was born June 10, 1904 in Dorchester, Iowa to Bernard and Catherine (McCormick) Schwartzhoff. He was a graduate of Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa and the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. On October 6, 1936 he married Rose Carolan. They lived in Waukon, Iowa for several years before moving to a farm near Lime Springs, Iowa in 1954. He directed the men's choir at St. Patrick's Church in Waukon for many years. He was a member of Assumption Church in Cresco. He had taught school in Montana, was an attorney, and later a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Leo Schwartzhoff, Richard Schwartzhoff, and Alphonse Schwartzhoff.

Surviving are his wife, Rose; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Flottmeyer of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and three sons, Thomas Schwartzhoff, Arthur Schwartzhoff, and Bernard Schwartzhoff, all of Lime Springs, Iowa; and 8 grandchildren.
