Services Held For William Goetsch

Funeral services for William Goetsch were held on Saturday, October 19 at the United Methodist Church in Cresco. Rev. Lewis Flamgan officiating. Interment was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in rural Cresco. Pallbearers were: Leonard Bronner, Larry Walter, Brent Bronner, Jerry Keune, Jonathan Keune, and Robert Easier.

Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

William, 73, died Thursday, September 17, 2002 at the Regional Health Services in Cresco.

William Earl Goetsch was born January 26, 1929, the son of William F. and Sylvia (Grabau) Goetsch. He attended Lincoln country school in Albion Township, and graduated from the eighth grade, as he was needed on the family farm in rural Cresco.

The army called him to service in June 1953. He trained at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, then Camp Carson, Colorado, where he specialized in operating a grader and building roads. He also served a year in Germany. He was honorably discharged in May 1955.

On September 7, 1957 he married Darlene Huhe.

He lived on the family farm until 1994, when his son married, then they moved to their home in Lime Springs.

He enjoyed fishing on the Upper Iowa River and driving around with one of his Ford tractors to "scout" the crops and trap gophers.

He enjoyed reading and served for many years on the Cresco Library Board. He was a member of Zion Church in rural Cresco, where he served on the Board of Trustees. He also was a long-time Farm Bureau member, a member of Lime Springs American Legion Post #545 and served on the Republican Central Committee of Howard County.

He is survived by his wife Darlene; his children: Sharyl Keune of rural Cresco, William K. of rural Cresco, and Shirley Miller of Mankato, MN; seven grandchildren; and one sister: Vera Easier of Des Moines.

William was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mona Wohlsdorf; and one brother: Lawrence.
