Following an attack of appendicitis he was taken to Minot, N. D. and an operation performed in Trinity hospital June 23rd, where after 13 days of suffering he passed away at the age of 52 years, 4 month and 29 days. He leaves to mourn his departure, wife, one son, Rueben, two daughters, Mrs. Annetta Wacker and Miss Ethel, eight brothers and three sisters: John, Harry Herbert, Louis, Ernest and Leonard of Cresco, Iowa; Chas. of Sebeka, Minn, and Gustave of Alta Vista, Iowa; Mrs. H. "God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Rev. 21:4.

He was a good father, friend, and neighbor; beloved by all. Another pilgrim has gone to his eternal rest.

"Here in an inn a stranger dwelt,
Here joy and grief by turns he felt.
Poor dwelling, now we close the door —
The task is o'er,
The sojourner returns no more.
