Herbert R. Evans, Retired Farmer, Dies Thursday
Funeral services for Herbert R. Evans, 83, retired Lime Springs community farmer, were held at the Zion Evangelical United Brethren church Sunday. Mr. Evans died in his home Thursday evening.
Conducting the funeral services was the Rev. Richard L. Ludden. Burial was in the Cedar Hills cemetery with the Bradley Funeral home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Evans, first-born child of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Evans' 10 children, was born in a log house, in Albion township November 18, 1879.
He was baptized in 1891 at Halsted Ford, south of Cresco, by the Rev. F. M. Coleman, minister of the Bonair Methodist church. As a youth he regularly attended Union Sunday school which was held at the Liberty schoolhouse. He received his education also at Liberty school.
Mr. Evans was married to Lorena Goetsch October 27, 1906, with the Rev. J. W. Wienands of the Zion Evangelical church performing the ceremony. Mr. Evans was closely associated with the Zion church until illness in recent years prevented his attendance.
He purchased his farm in Albion township in 1910. Here he lived until his death. He and his wife had nearly 57 years together.
Mr. and Mrs. Evans became the parents of four daughters, including Ruth Eleanor, who died at the age of two; Eleanor, now Mrs. E. K. Allen of Saint Ansgar, and twins, Esther, now Mrs. Paul H. Schuldt of Mentor, Ohio, and Edith, now Mrs. Thomas George, of Cresco.
In addition to his widow and three daughters, Mr. Evans is survived by several grandchildren, including Mrs. Robert Minish of Minneapolis, Steven and Linda Schuldt of Mentor, Ohio, and Marian and Jerry George of Cresco.
Also surviving are a brother, John P. Evans of Lime Springs, and five sisters, Mrs. Olav Coll of Minneapolis, Mrs. E. W. Goetch of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Rexford Krueger of Germantown, Wisconsin, Mrs. Arthur Anderson of Villard, Minnesota, and Mrs. O. D. Houser of Ames.
Having served as a school director for many years, Mr. Evans was a great believer in young persons and in education.
Preceding Mr. Evans in death, in addition to his daughter, Ruth, were two sisters, Ruth Evans and Mrs. Carl (Mary) Thayer.

Goetch of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Rexford Krueger of Germantown, Wisconsin, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Anderson of Villard, Minnesota, Dr. and Mrs. O. D. Houser and family of Ames, Dr. and Mrs. Keith Thayer and family of Iowa City, John C. Evans of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Calhoun and family of Ames.
Also Mrs. Leon Doelger of Wauwautosa, Wisconsin, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Thomas of Minneapolis, Mrs. Robert Easier of Waterloo, Mrs. Stuart Diem of Los Angeles, California, Herman Schuldt of Garner, Mrs. Jessie George of Mason City, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Goetsch of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Charles Burdick and Mr. and Mrs. Milton Bender and Robert of Watertown, Wisconsin.
