Services held for LaVonne Keune
Funeral services for LaVonne Keune of Cresco were held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2 at First Lutheran Church in Cresco with Pastor Jack Gannett officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were: Gay Zidlicky and family, Bill and Marian Fishbaugher, Billy Walker, Norris and Virginia Larson and family, Lester Johnson, Bob and Bernice Davidson, and Arnie and Wilma Bigalk.
Pallbearers were: Duane Borgan, Terry Borgan, Thorn Davis, Larry Fenske, Lance Johnson, Jerry Moen, and Gary Zidlicky. Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery in rural Cresco.
Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco handled the arrangements.
LaVonne, 80, died Sunday, October 30, 2005 at the Regional Health Services in Cresco.
Geneva LaVonne (Borgan) Keune was born on July 4, 1925 in Fillmore County, MN on the farm. Her parents were Lena Borgan (Hovey) and Tollef A. Borgan. She was baptized and confirmed at Saetersdal Lutheran Church, where she attended and taught Sunday and Bible School, sang in the choir and participated in Luther League. LaVonne attended a country school named Hovey, and worked on the farm until moving to Cresco and waitressing at the Cresco Cafe.
On September 12, 1950, LaVonne married Burdette Keune of Cresco at Saetersdal Church. They joined First Lutheran Church of Cresco where she continued to be active in the church teaching Sunday and Bible School, as well as being involved in circle and WELCO. She was a Camp Fire Girl and Boy Scout leader for years and also helped with 4-H. LaVonne was a member of the Hospital and American Legion Auxiliary.
LaVonne was a very good seamstress, quilter, and knitter, she also loved to cook and bake and share the goodies with friends and neighbors. Doughnuts that mom made and Homecoming went together at the Keunes.
LaVonne enjoyed working in the garden and yard with her husband and kids. She remained very active as long as her health permitted.
LaVonne was a wonderful sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend.
LaVonne is survived by two daughters: Cynthia of Livermore, CA and Sandra (Lynn) Montague of Waverly, IA; one son: Arden (Brenda) Keune of Sioux Rapids, IA; one granddaughter: Mackenzie; one sister: Hazel Davis of Cresco, IA; one brother: Gaylord (Patsy) Borgan of Lime Springs, IA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Burdette; her parents; two brothers: Olaf and Foster; and two nieces: Gloria Johnson and Kay Sobolik.
