Ira Cleveland, 64, Rites Held Saturday

Funeral services for Ira Joseph Cleveland, 64, were held Saturday at the First Baptist church with Rev. Charles Kirtley officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Hill cemetery with Bradley-Lindstrom Funeral home making the arrangements.

Mr. Cleveland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Cleveland, was born May 5, 1908, in Stewartvllle, Minn. The family Iater moved to the Cresco area where Ira received his education in surrounding country schools. On Nov 7, 1934, he was married to Blanche Jeffers Fye in Decorah. Mr. Cleveland was employed as a farm laborer, and milk hauler, also was for many years, a trucker. Most recently he'd been in partnership with his son, Bernard, as a refuse hauler.

Mr. Cleveland served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in France and Germany. He was an active member of the American Legion, Post 135, serving as color bearer, a member of the firing squad and also as chaplain. Mr. Cleveland was a member of the First Baptist church, Cresco. He died Nov. 29 of a heart attack.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, William. Mr. Cleveland is survived by his wife, Blanche, a son, Bernard, at home, also a daughter, Mrs. Gene (Barbara) Cleghorn of Spring Valley, Minnesota; and a step-daughter, Mrs. Nick (Juanita) Grimm, Cresco; nine grandchildren; also three brothers, Merrold, La Crosse, Wis.; George, of Spring Valley, Minn.; Everett, of Bagley, Minn.; and four sisters, Alice and Violet Cleveland of Cresco; Lucy Cleveland of Chatfield, Minn.; and Mrs. John (Caroline) Wheeler, Cresco.
