Herman F. Ludwig

At Rest.

Herman F. Ludwig, youngest son of Andrew Ludwig, was born on the 15th day of December, 1885, at the home of his parents, who reside near Florenceville. About two weeks ago he was suddenly taken sick with inflammation of the bowels, causing his death Jan. 19, 1897.

Little Herman was sick but nine days. He was a patient sufferer. His age was 11 years, 1 month and 4 days. He was a kind and noble child at home and a little gentleman abroad. His funeral was one of the largest ever held in this part of the county. The school to which he belonged did sing grand, and the little pall bearers also did nobly. His pastor conducted the funeral services in both the German and English languages in the Zion Evangelical church near Florenceville. He was assisted by Rev. Harkness of Florenceville M. E. church, whose assistance was highly appreciated. The Evangelical church and Sunday school deeply mourn the Ioss of one of the lambs of the flock. While their number on earth is less, the number in heaven has increased.

Five sisters and one brother precede him to the sweet land of bliss. Four brothers, a kind father and a loving mother deeply mourn the departure of their son and brother.

"Little Herman's now an angel,
And with the angels he does stand,
With a crown upon his forehead,
And a harp within his hand.
There, right before his Saviour,
So glorious and so bright,
He makes the sweetest music
And praises God day and night."

REV. J. D. BOHEN, Pastor.

Cresco Times, January 27, 1897:

When we penned the statement of Mr. Ludwig's son being sick in last week's items, little did we think that this week we would be called upon to pen the statement of his death, but such is the case. Herman Ludwig, who was a little over 11 years old, died at his home in Florenceville Tuesday evening, Jan. 19, and was buried at the German Methodist cemetery last Friday, being sick only a little over a week, but during that time he suffered much pain.

At the funeral, the Florenceville school took part and their instructor, Miss Springsteel, played the organ, while some of the scholars rendered some very fine selections. Deceased was also a member of the Junior Epworth League and every member of the order was present. Rev. Bohen, pastor of the church that little Herman was reared in, delivered an excellent sermon from the 8th chapter of Matthew, 11th verse, his subject being "Heaven." Rev. Harkness was present and gave an address in English. SCRIBBLER.
