Charles Ludwig

Charles Ludwig, son of Andrew and Amalia Ludwig, was born in Albion Township, Howard County, Iowa, July 5, 1865, and died on Nov. 14, 1910.

Charles was a strong and healthy child, and hopes for a successful and healthy career for him were entertained by the parents and all, but disease finally fastened itself upon him which left a mental defect upon him for life. In order that the very best possible care might be given him, he was taken to Glenwood, Iowa, to the Home of the Feeble Minded, at which institution he remained about 7 years; his condition was so much improved by this time that the parents believed that they could now care for him at home. This was also done for a number of years, but finally it became necessary to take him to the hospital at Independence where the last ten years of his life were spent, at which place he also died on the above date, at the age of 45 years, 4 months and 9 days. The corpse was shipped to Cresco where it arrived early on Thursday. The funeral occurred on the afternoon of the same day from the Albion Evangelical church conducted by J. C. Schwab, the family pastor. The body was laid to rest in the Evangelical cemetery near the church.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, 5 sisters and 3 brothers. His mother, three brothers, John, George and Albert, who reside among us, and a large circle of other relatives and sympathizing friends are left to mourn his loss.
