Services held for Gladys Bigalk

Funeral services for Gladys O. Bigalk of Harmony, MN, formerly of Cresco, IA were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10 at the Cresco United Methodist Church in Cresco, IA with Rev. Michael Carey officiating. Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Friends were to call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony, MN from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco handled the arrangements.

Gladys, 90, died Thursday, July 7, 2005 at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI.

Gladys Orilee Bigalk, daughter of Carl and Clara Applen, was born March 24, 1915 in Bradley, SD. She was baptized and confirmed in Harmony, MN at the Greenfield Lutheran Church. Gladys attended Wilton Center Country School and graduated from Harmony High School in 1932. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood, growing up with aunts and uncles and many cousins close by.

In 1941, Gladys married Delbert Bigalk. They were married for 53 years, farming together until their retirement,.

Gladys will always be remembered by her family and friends for her positive outlook and cheery personality.

She is survived by her four children: Manley and his wife Linda of Cresco, Ann and her husband Carl of Austin, TX, Gayleen of Preston, MN, and Terry of Rifle, CO; seven grandchildren: Trisha and Melissa; Abbie and Becky, Heidi, Paige and Tracy; four great-grandchildren: Shae and Lyndon, Tyler and Thomas; and her brother, Howard and his wife Thelma of Harmony, MN.

The family would like to recognize that during Gladys's years at the Harmony Health Care Center, Howard was always there for her with his dependable and kind attention. Her sister-in-law, Violet Brokken, has been another regular visitor, bringing a friendly smile and good conversation.
