Services Monday for Delbert Bigalk, 77

Services for Delbert Bigalk of Cresco were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 30, at the United Methodist Church in Cresco with the Rev. Allen Wiese officiating. Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Delbert, 77, died Friday, May 27, 1994.

Delbert Dale Bigalk, son of Albert and Olga (Waller) Bigalk, was born August 9, 1916, in Albion Township, Howard County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Zion United Methodist Church. He attended rural schools and Cresco High School. Delbert farmed with his father. In 1941, he married Gladys Applen. In 1943, he joined the United States Army where he served in the 329th Infantry Division. He was combat wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. At the conclusion of the war he served with the Grave Registration Assignment in Belgium until returning home in May, 1946. Delbert continued to farm the family farm until his retirement in 1977.

Delbert enjoyed beekeeping, motorcycles, reading, hunting and trapping, gardening and the study of antique apples.

Surviving him are his wife, Gladys; sons, Manly of Cresco, Terry of Santa Maria, CA; daughters, Ann Fabre of Austin, TX and Gayleen Colsch of Cresco; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Violet Brokken of Cresco.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an older brother, Manly and his son, Larry in 1962.
