Cresco Plain Dealer, March 29, 1918, page 1, column 2

John Dempewolf was born in Ontario, Canada Nov. 1, 1850, and went to his eternal reward March 21, aged 67 years, 4 months and 20 days.

When about 8 years old he came with his parents to Iowa. They settled in Albion twp., Howard county, where be spent most of his life. On the 22nd of March, 1874, he was united in marriage with Minnie Walter with whom he lived 44 years, less one day. To this union were born eight children, two of whom died in infancy, and one daughter, Mrs. Lydia Schuman, died 18 months ago.

For some years he farmed in Albion twp. Later he purchased a farm near Lime Springs where they lived until about eight years ago when they came to Cresco.

As a young man he embraced the Christian faith and united with the Evangelical Church of which he was a member at the time of his death. His faith in God and the atoning merits of Jesus were a great comfort to him during his sickness. His companion, with all the children, one brother and one sister, were at his side when the end came.

He leaves a sorrowing wife, five children as follows: Benjamin of Howard, S. D., Mattie Kreuger of Granger, Minn., Arthur of Ocheyedum, la., Roy of Cresco and Clara Johnson of Rock Rapids, one brother, two sisters and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the Florenceville Evangelical Church Saturday at 1 p.m., conducted by the pastor. The large attendance was a testimonial to the respect he commanded.
