Services Held For Lawrence Goetsch

Funeral services for Lawrence Goetsch were held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21 at Assumption Worship Center in Cresco with Rev. Henry W. Charipar officiating. Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, rural Cresco. Lindstrom Funeral home handled the arrangements.

Lawrence, 70, died Friday, May 12, 2002, at Rochester Methodist Hospital.

Lawrence Goetsch was born May 8, 1932 on the family farm, the son of Sylvia Alice (Grabau) and William F. Goetsch. He attended country school until the sixth grade. He graduated from high school in Cresco in 1950.

On May 8, 1957 he married Elizabeth Schmidt at St. John's Catholic Church.

He farmed all his life in Howard County raising Hereford beef cattle.

He enjoyed reading and restoring antique tractors.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, seven daughters: Sylvia Moe of Rochester, MN, Patsy Bronner of Cresco, Lorraine Goetsch of Cresco, Nancy Goetsch of New Hampton, Mary Beth Schroeder of Rochester, Laura Becker of Stewartville, MN, and Lois Leifeld of Cresco; four grandchildren; one sister, Vera Easler of Des Moines; and one brother, William of Lime Springs.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mona Wohlsdorf.

Services were held for Lawrence Goetsch, on Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at Assumption Worship Center, Cresco, Iowa. The Rev. Henry W. Charipar officiated the service. Burial was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, rural Cresco.
Lawrence Goetsch, 70, died on Friday, May 17, at Rochester Methodist Hospital.
Goetsch was born on the family farm on May 8, 1932 to Sylvia Alice (Grabau) and William F. Goetsch. He walked to the Lincoln country school across the field until sixth grade. He graduated from the high school in Cresco with the class of 1950. He met Elizabeth Schmidt, a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, and they were married at St. John’s Catholic Church on May 8, 1957.
He farmed all of his life in Howard County, raising Hereford beef cattle, hogs, corn and hay. His talents at which he used to be successful, as well as helping others be successful included: carpentry, plumbing, electrical and mechanical work, as well as creative problem solving. He enjoyed reading, spending time with his family, and in recent years, restoring antique farm tractors.
Lawrence was a loving husband to Elizabeth Pauline Schmidt and a devoted father to his seven daughters; Sylvia Marie, Patsy Ann, Lorraine Elizabeth, Nancy Louise, Mary Beth, Laurie Eileen and Lois Elaine. He said he was blessed to relive his childhood yet second time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, seven daughters, Sylvia (Daryel) Moe of Rochester, Minn., Patsy (Brent) Bronner, Cresco, Iowa, Lorraine Goetsch, Cresco, Nancy Goetsch, New Hampton, Mary Beth (Joel) Schroeder, Rochester, Laura (Edward) Becker, Stewartville, Minn., and Lois Leifeld, Cresco; four grandchildren, a sister, Vera Easler, Des Moines, Iowa and a brother, William E. Goetsch, Lime Springs.
