Thenora Schuman
Mrs. Schuman was killed in a car-truck accident on highway 63 five and one-half miles south of New Hampton. She was a passenger in a car driven by her granddaughter, Donna Landswerk. Helen Landswerk, daughter of Mrs. Schuman and Donna's mother, was also a passenger in the car. Both Helen and Donna Landswerk were taken to the New Hampton hospital.
The accident occurred when a semi, driven by Billie Strong of Gainsboro, Tenn., attempted to stop for some cars in the southbound lane of highway 63. According to a Chickasaw deputy sheriff, the truck was unable to stop, hit one of the cars and jacknifed (sic) into northbound lane, where the cab collided with the oncoming Landswerk car.
Services were held for Mrs. Schuman Monday, Jan. 6, at Zion United Methodist church with the Rev. Wayne Wasta officiating. Burial was at Cedar Hill cemetery with the Bradley-Lindstrom Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Thenora Sinland Schuman was born Aug. 8, 1898, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Sinland. She was raised in the Harmony, Minn., area, and attended Upepr (sic) Iowa and taught school for several years. On June 18, 1919, she married Edward Schuman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, and two step-children, Donald and Faith. Also preceding her in death were Mrs. Henry (Inger) Morem, Theodora and Arnold Sinland, and Oleo Sinland.
Mrs. Schuman is survived by two sons, Harding of La Porte City, and Gail of Cresco, and a daughter, Helen. She is also survived by her sister, Lena Sinland of Cresco, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
