Mrs. Hannah Scheurer Funeral Rites Held Mar. 6

Mrs. Hannah Scheurer, second oldest daughter of Philip and Margaret Kratz, was born April 14, 1853, in Franklin County, Ind. and passed to the life beyond on March 6, 1937 at Florenceville, Ia., at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 22 days.

She was married to Jacob Scheurer May 31, 1880 and to this union five children were born. Through all of life she took an active interest in the church, of which she was a member and found real joy and pleasure in the work and fellowship of each organization. She gave many years of faithful service to the ladies societies of her church. She enjoyed the fellowship of her friends and sought never to betray the trust and confidence they placed in her, she was a real mother in Israel to her children and the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband who died March 1, 1923, a daughter, Elsie in 1916 and a son who died in infancy. She is survived by Joshua, Tilla (Mrs. John Brown), and Addie, (Mrs. Albert Bronner), all of Cresco. She also leaves four grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Mary Glass of Strawberry Point, Ia. and many other relatives and friends.

She has made her home the last years with her daughter, Mrs. John Brown, who ministered faithfully to her comforts during her illness.

The funeral was held from the Zion Evangelical church Tuesday, March 9, conducted by Rev. Park E. Miller, her pastor. Mrs. A. Bigalk and Mrs. Stanley Reynolds sang “Rock of Ages”, "Going Down the Valley”, “I’m A Pilgrim” and “Lead Me Gently Home Father”, accompanied by Mrs. P. E. Miller.

The body was laid to rest in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenneth and Eldred Bronner, Philip Kratz, Wesley Kratz, Deno Kratz and Frank Falck

Attending the funeral from out-of-town were Mrs. Sarah Kratz of Calmar, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Koch and Ed Kratz of Decorah and Mrs. Orval Anderson of Ridgeway.
