Ferneva Nast
Ferneva Nast, 83, of Cresco, died June 1, 2001 at Cresco Care Center.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 5 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Granger, Minn., with Pastor Keith Parker officiating.
Casket bearers were Gerald Keune, Lee Walter, Brent Bronner, David Schmitt, Raymond Bronner and Mary Murphy.
Interment was at St. Matthews Lutheran Cemetery in Granger, with Lindstrom Funeral Service of Cresco handling arrangements.
Ferneva Nast was born July 21, 1917, the daughter of Herman and Theresa (Bronner) Weinkauf.
She was baptized and later confirmed at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Granger May 1931.
She attended rural Nichols Grade School, graduating from the eighth grade in 1930 and from Cresco High School in 1934. She briefly worked for Luther College in Decorah.
She married Charles Nast Oct. 19, 1944 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Granger.
They farmed a century farm previously owned by her parents on the Golden Ridge.
Ferneva Nast had been a lifelong member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and was active in WELCA and the Rachel Circle.
Since 1954 she had worked as a legal secretary in Cresco until her retirement.
Her hobbies included reading, snowmobiling and dancing. She was also a 4-H leader and belonged to the Women's Club.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Nast; twin daughters, Sharla and Victor Fencl of Protivin and Charlene and Wayne Wilkins of Ottawa, Illinois; three grandchildren and her sister, Gertrude Bunge of Minneapolis, Minn.
Ferneva Nast was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Russell Weinkauf.
