John R. Lukes Dies of Heart Trouble at Home - 1963
A requiem mass was offered at the Protivin Holy Trinity Catholic church April 8 for John R. Lukes, 77, of Protivin, who died in his home April 5.
The Rev. J. S. Skluzacek, pastor, offered the funeral mass, and burial was in the Holy Trinity church cemetery.
Mr. Lukes, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lukes of near Protivin, was born August 9, 1885. He attended the Protivin school and was married to Emma Fisher of Protivin April 27, 1909.
Mr. and Mrs. Lukes became the parents of two children. In 1944, the couple retired to Protivin from their farm Southeast of Protivin. Mr. Lukes was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving Mr. Lukes are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Viola) Kovarik of Cresco, and a son, Raymond of Fort Atkinson.
There are 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Preceding Mr. Lukes in death were 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
