Cresco lost one of its oldest pioneer residents and a most honored and respected business man and citizen in the death of Patrick F. O'Malley, which occurred at St. Paul on Monday, May 21st, where he was receiving medical attention. He was born in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland, Nov. 14, 1836, and was nearly 87 years of age. He came to the United States when 14 years of age, and later to Cresco with the building of the railroad in 1866, where he engaged in business and conducted the [paper torn] --ding drygoods store there for fifty years. The home papers speak very [paper torn] of his manly characteristics, [paper torn] Times adding this sterling approp-- [paper torn] "would that the world and this community had more such men of [paper torn] and integrity."

Grand Anniversary Sale
1866 - 1906

A Few Words Regarding This Great Event: FORTY YEARS AGO THIS MONTH, P. F. O’MALLEY CAME TO CRESCO and entered the mercantile business, Cresco at that time was a town of about 25 people. During this period Mr. O’Malley has been identified constantly with the business interests of Cresco. He has seen Cresco grow from a few people to a town of 3000, and as good a business town for its size as there is to be found in the state. He has also enjoyed a business growth equal to the advancement of the town and county until today this establishment stands as the leading store of the county, having the largest stock of dry goods, clothing and shoes to be found under one roof in this part of the state. This store is built upon honor and square dealing. Every article must be as represented or money refunded. The policy of this store has and ever will be: First in Quality and Style and the Lowest Prices consistent with good merchandise. To fittingly celebrate this great event in the history of this store, we have decided to inaugurate a GRAND ANNIVERSARY SALE commencing Thursday, Oct. 18th and continuing until Wednesday, Oct. 31st. Every article in this Mammoth Stock will be reduced for this Anniversary Sale to prices fitting such a grand occasion. Extra salespeople in every department, and no expense or labor will be spared to make this 40th Anniversary Sale a business event in the history of Cresco. It will be the Greatest Sale ever given by this store. Greatest in point of money saving, for we feel called upon at this time to do something grand in this connection, for it is not every merchant who can boast of a 40 Year Anniversary. Having done business for 40 years in one town and held the confidence of the people of the community for so long a time speaks volumes for the class of merchandise handled and the liberal policy adopted by this store. As appreciation for the large and increasing trade we have received, we have decided to make the following low prices together with hundreds of other big reductions too numerous to here mention.
