NINA BELLE(CLEVELAND) VAN TRIES, 95

Nina Belle Cleveland was born Jan. 1, 1903, youngest child of Frederick E. and Anna E. (Welekisk) Cleveland, near White Pigeon, Illinois. She attended schools around Aurora, Elgin and Earlville, Ill., and on Feb. 1, 1920, the family moved to a farm near Villard, Minn.

Nov 3,1920 she married Guy D. VanTries at Glenwood, Minn., where they farmed. The couple had two children, Lucille, and Harry, before moving to a farm near Grand Meadow. The family moved several times around Grand Meadow, Racine, Spring Valley, Wykoff, and Chester. In February 1942, they moved to their final farm near LeRoy.

Druing that time, six more children were born, Donald, Laurence, Frances, who died at eight months in 1936, Marjorie, Janet and Richard.

June 7, 1957, her husband, Guy, preceded her in death. In 1959 she moved Rochester, but returned to LeRoy in 1972, where she lived until March 1986. At that time she entered the Spring Valley Nursing Home where she died Aug. 28, 1998, at the age of 95.

Her life was spent as a homemaker. She loved her children and grandchildren as they came. She spent her years after her husband died reading, sewing, embroidering, and crocheting. When her eyesight began to fail, she laid aside her sewing, but continued to read.

Survivors include seven children, Lucille, Harry and Shirley, LeRoy; Donald and Dorothy, Janet and Loren Hove, Spring Valley; Laurence and Ann, Bimini, Tex.; Majorie and Charles Teure, Marian, Iowa; and Richard and Judy, The Colony, Tex. Also 23 grandchildren, 45 great-grand children, and 25 Great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Guy, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances; great-great granddaughter, Hope; her parents, two brothers, Frederick and Harold Cleveland, and an infant sister.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday Aug. 31 at Hutchins Funeral Home in LeRoy with Pastor Nupson of First Baptist Church, Spring Valley, officiating.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Neil Van Tries, Guy, Scott, and David Van Tries, Robert Teure, Jere Loder, Mark and Douglas Hove, and Justin Van Tries. Lunch was served by the American Legion Auziliary and friends at the LeRoy Senior Center following the services.
