Mower County Transcript April 24, 1901
Died, at St. Mary's hospital, Rochester, at 7:30 o'clock Wednesday evening, Cameron Paul (Note by coordinator: William Harrison states that there was an error in the original Obit. the correct name is "Patchin" not "Paul") Wells, aged 50 years 7 months. Mr. Wells was kicked in the head by his horse some weeks ago. At first hopes were entertained that he would recover but he gradually failed and about April 12th he was taken to the Rochester hospital and an operation was performed but to no avail. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Friday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Rumsey officiating. Interment was at Chester Hill Cemetery, Chester, Iowa. There was a beautiful floral display and a large funeral.
He was married in 1870 to Evangeline Leora Clark of Chester, Iowa. He leaves to mourn him his wife, one son Victor Munroe, and six daughters Lillian Amber Green, Nina Crandell, Helen Alberta Kimball, Cecile Claire Wells, Gladys Marion Wells, and Ruth Clark Wells, His mother Orsavilla Headington, four brothers George, Edgar, Egbert, and Ferdinand and six sisters Lucy Huey, Elizabeth Simes, Almira Jerred, Geneva Palmerton, Cara Harden, and Jesse Butler. A seventh sister, Mary Blanche Jerred sadly died on March 11th. A son Cecil Worden, his father Worden Yates Wells, and two brothers, Ernest and Benjamin also preceded him in death. Many other friends and relatives mourn his untimely loss.
Mr. Wells was born in Steuben County, New York on September 9, 1850 to Orsavilla and Worden Yates Wells. When one year old his parents moved to Illinois where they resided six years, then removing to Howard County, Iowa where he remained 27 years. About 15 years ago he came to LeRoy and engaged in the blacksmith business until his death. We extend the relatives our sympathy.

Obituary.
C. P. Wells died of abscess on the brain at St. Mary’s Hospital April, 17, 1901, at the age of 50 years. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Wells. He leaves a wife and seven children, six girls and one boy to mourn his loss, also a mother, four brothers and six sisters. Mr. Wells has been a resident of Le Roy seventeen years. On February 14th, he was severely kicked by a horse, and did not recover from the blow but grew worse, and was taken to the Rochester hospital to receive superior medical treatment but of no avail. He was buried from the Baptist church, Friday, at 1:30 p. m. Interment in the Chester cemetery.— Le Roy Independent.
