Mrs. Mary Blanch Jerred, wife of George Elias Jerred of Bonesteel, SD., died at the Austin home of her sister, Mrs. Truman Palmerton, on Monday morning March 11, 1901 at 37 years of age.
Mary Blanch Wells was born in Oakdale, Iowa to Worden and Orsavilla Wells on April 10, 1863. She was united in marriage to George Elias Jerred in Chester, Iowa on Christmas Day 1877.
Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Jerred, of whom only two little Floyd Cameron and Gladys Lenore alone survive. Among the others left to mourn her passing are her husband George, her mother Orsavilla Headington, brothers, George, Cameron, Edgar, Egbert, Ferdinand, sisters, Lucy Huey, Elizabeth Simes, Almira Jerred, Geneva Palmerton, Caroline Harden, and Jessie Butler. She was preceded in death by six children Frank Worden, Winfield Elias, George Kelsly, Blanch Elizabeth, Ethel May, Jessie Mildred all of whom died in Nov. 1892 of dyptheria. Her father Worden, and two brothers, Walter and Benjamin also preceded her in death.
The deceased has been a great sufferer since last June. Last fall she came with her husband and little ones to Minnesota hoping to receive aid through superior medical treatment but to no avail, and with intense suffering she passed away. An autopsy conducted by Dr. Hart and Dr. Henslin revealed tuberculosis in an aggravated form.
Funeral services were at the Baptist church Wednesday at 2 pm. Interment was in the family plot in Chester Hill Cemetery, Chester, Iowa. The relatives have the sympathy of the entire community.
