Mary B. Toombs was born at Taber, N. Y. July 21, 1832. At the age of fourteen she moved with her parents to Wisconsin. April 17th, 1854, she was united in marriage to Ethen E. Babcock at Alliance, Ohio. Five children were born to this happy union, three of whom still survive. One daughter having died at the age of five, another daughter Mrs. Bertha Phifer of Chester, Iowa, having died in 1906, and her husband Ethan E. Babcock passed away in April, 1911, also of Chester, Iowa. June 1913, Mrs. Babcock moved with her daughter to Sacramento, Cal., where she since resided.

She had been a member of the Presbyterian church for many years and was a true christian. She leaves to mourn her great loss two sons and one daughter, Mrs. L. H. Sanborn of Sacramento, Cal., E. H. Babcock of Sacramento, Cal., Elmer Babcock of Mobridge, S. D.

She passed away June 22nd, 1916, at the age of 83 years, 11 months. The funeral was held at the Fenton parlors June 27th, 1916, at 2:30 p.m., Rev. Sherman officiating. Theme: "A Mother's Love."

There were many friends who mourn with the relatives the loss of a dear mother and friend.
