Nellie H. Dahly, daughter of Halver and Jane Dahly was born September 11, 1879 at the old Dahly home in Fillmore Co., Minn. She was married October 2, 1901 to Hayes B. Davis. They first began their home at Foreston but for several years their home was in Lime Springs. She was the third child of a large family and is the first to break the circle of eleven, five sisters and five brothers remaining with the father and mother, and it is to them a great sorrow. But for her own children and husband there is no sorrow like unto it. The six children left without a mother and so small with only a father to care for them, have surely the united sympathy of the whole community. The babe, Byron, is now in the home of Aaron Watts, which condition the mother very gladly consented to, being glad the child would have a home. She made paticular mention of the kindness of the friends who had so often remembered her with flowers and delicacies. She was particularly a beautiful mother and the care of her children was her chief delight. She gave them such counsel and guided them so truly that they reflected her patience and devotion. The friends had hoped for recovery, but without warning apparently the white plague came and the poor body, too weak to resist, was defeated. She passed away near 12 p.m. May 3 being 37 years, 8 months, and 21 days old. The funeral service was held on Saturday afternoon from the M. E. church. A large company of sympathizing friends were present and expressed by their presence the high exteem in which she was held and their deep sympathy for the bereaved family. Service was in charge of the pastor of the church assisted by Rev. W. E. Caldwell of the Presbyterian church.
