The community was shocked when on Tuesday morning Oct. 22, they learned of the death the night before of Mrs. Henry Schahn. This is the third time in two and a half years that the death messenger has entered the home. The sympathy of everyone goes out to the stricken family. Her last sickness was of but a week's duration turning into pneumonia. All the human help could do was done but to no avail.

The funeral service was conducted at the home on Wednesday afternoon. Relatives were present and many friends gathered in the open and listened to Rev. Hempstead as he brought words of consolation.

Bertha Marie Katherine Madous was born in Clayton county, Iowa, on the 10th of May, 1883, living here with her people till they moved to Howard county some time later. She was united in marriage to Henry Schahn on Dec. 22, 1902. To this union five children were born, two preceeding her in death. She passed away Monday night, Oct. 21, 1918. Burial was in Riveside cemetery.
