CHARLES H. PATTEN SUDDENLY STRICKEN

C. H. Patten, a prominent pioneer resident of Afton Township, died very suddenly Monday night. He had been at Elma in the afternoon, apparently in his usual state of health..

Returning home in the evening, he became unconscious soon after entering the house. Drs. Hastings of Alta Vista and Dr. T. S. Walker of Riceville were called, who pronounced it apoplexy and resorted to treatment for such cases. After remaining in a comatose condition until midnight he passed away. The coming of relatives from the west is awaited before final interment arrangements can be made.
