Mrs. Joseph Irvin, for many years a resident of Howard county and later of Riceville, passed away at her home last Saturday, after an illness of several weeks.

The funeral was held at the Congregational church Monday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. W. Hempstead. Burial was made in Riverside cemetery.

The following mortuary notice was read during the service at the church:

Diana Nemire was born in Courtland county, New York, March 5th, 1852, and died at her home in Riceville, November 18th, 1916, at the age of sixty-four years.

At the age of one year she came with her parents to Jackson county, Iowa, residing here two years, when they moved to Winona county, Minnesota. In 1862 her father enlisted in the Civil War, sacrificing his life that his country might live. He died in Kentucky in 1865.

Mrs. Irvin being next to the oldest of a family of four children, it was necessary that she earn her own living at the age of twelve. In 1870 the mother with her family came to Howard county, where she has always lived until five years ago when she came over into Mitchell county.

March 11, 1872, she was married to Joseph Irvin. Eleven children were born into this home, four died in infancy, Mary Ella at the age of five years, Mabel at the age of three years. The others with the husband remain. The children are as follows: Mrs. Lydia McGinness at home, John of Elma, Will of Acme, Jake at home, and Mrs. Josie Regan of Elma. One brother, Irvin Nemire of Minneapolis remains. Her sisters, Mrs. Christena O'Brien and Mrs. Eliza Sigler have preceded her to the great beyond.

Life is but a working day
Whose tasks are set aright
A time to work, a time to play
And then a quiet night
And then, please God, a quiet night
Those palms are green and robes are white
A long drawn breath, a balm for sorrow
And all things lovely on the morrow.
