From the Scrapbook of Newspaper Articles by Mrs. Lillian Wheeler

Mrs. Lane, of Scotch descent, came to this country from Phildadelphia with her family in what was called pioneer times, about 1865. She was of cheerful disposition, bearing her hardships with Christian fortitude. She lived near Riceville until about thirty-three years ago, when she moved to Cresco where she has since resided. A little over a year ago she came for a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Jas. Irvin, and has made her home with her since. Just wearing away from old age, her death, which occurred on Aug. 12 (1914), was very quiet and peaceful. She was seventy-nine years of age and leaves four children, Mrs. Irvin of Riceville, Nettie Lane of Cresco, George Lane of Tacoma, Wash., and John Lane of Montana. One daughter died in California and is buried here.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. C. W. Hempstead from the Congregational church at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, with burial in Riverside cemetery.
