From the Scrapbook of Newspaper Articles by Mrs. Lillian Wheeler.

Adam Johnston was born April 18, 1864, near Cresco, Iowa, and all his life was spent there and at Riceville.

In the year 1890 he was married to Lydia Cummings of Riceville, Iowa, to which union were born four children, two boys, Roy and Harland, and two girls, Ruth and Dea, who with their mother remain to mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father.

He passed away at 9 o'clock a.m. on July 22, (1913), aged 49 years, 3 months, and 4 days.

The deceased was a great lover of horses, and he had acquired quite a wide reputation as a horse trainer and driver. The major part of his life was spent in that work, sometimes in conjuntion with other lines of work. He was interested in the livery barn here much of the time.

The funeral services were conducted by Elder Wolfe of Decorah, of the Adventist denomination, at the Congregational church Thursday, July 24, before a large audience of friends and sympathizers.

We wish to thank our find friends and neighbors who so kindly helped us in the last hours of care of our kind husband and loving father.
