The funeral service of the late Ellen Finch Wildman was conducted from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Estella Miles, Monday at one o'clock, by the Rev. C. W. Hempstead of Riceville, the new pastor of the Congregational Church. Mrs. Wildman has been in poor health for several months and confined to her bed for the past few weeks.
Ellen Finch was born on the 11th of February, 1842, at North Pitcher, Chenango county, N. Y. Here she lived and grew to womanhood. She was married to Rollin J. Wildman on June 27, 1867. They came to Iowa immediately and have lived in the state continuouly with the exception of four years. To Mr. and Mrs. Wildman were born three children, Frank Henry of McGraw, N. Y., (with whom she lived in 1912, returning last fall to Riceville); Joseph Nathaniel, who died in 1886; and Eva Estella Miles, with whom she was living at the time of her death Feb. 1st, 1913.
A large number of friends from the Saratoga district together with several from Riceville, gathered at the Will Miles home, where the funeral service was held. She was laid beside her husband, who died thirty-five years ago, in Riverside cemetery.
Thus, one by one, those who came to Iowa in the early days are passing into the Great Beyond. Many sacrifices were made by those early pioneers; may we who are younger follow where they blazed the trail.
The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the sorrowing ones in this their hour of trial.
