From the Scrapbook of Newspaper Articles by Mrs. Lillian Wheeler

Daniel Auringer was born in Onondaga County, New York, Feb. 24, 1846 and died in Riceville, Iowa, Feb. 12, 1910, aged 63 years, 11 months, and 19 days.

He enlisted in the Union army and was a member of the 10th New York Cavalary. In 1872 he with his father and two brothers came to Iowa and located in Howard County. His father, mother and one brother preceeded him to the better land.

He was united in marriage Feb. 22, 1880 to Miss Maria Torney; to this union ten children were born. He was a kind and loving husband and father and he will be missed for his seat will be vacant.

For the past ten months he has been a great sufferer but bore it all with patience and expressed his readiness to go, and just before he went he said, "He wanted to go home and be at rest."

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, eight daughers, two sons, one brother and three sisters besides many other relatives and a host of friends.
