JAMES BENNETT BROUGHT TO RICEVILLE FOR BURIAL
The body of James Bennett is being brought here from Waterloo today for burial in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery. He died at Waterloo at the home of his brother Dr. G. J. Bennett, and who is acompanying the body to Riceville.
James Bennett was at one time, or some thirty-five years ago, a resident of the Riceville district. He was the son of "Capt." Bennett, who in the early day lived on the farm now owned by the Benda's across from old Jamestown cheese factory.
BORN ON A WHALER
The following data and items with reference to James Seaborn Bennett, who was brought here for burial last week, were supplied by the Waterloo Courier:
Born at sea 40 miles from the Sandwich Island, October 27, 1853, on the whaling ship, Massachusetts, of which his father was captain. James Seaborn Bennett, 1428 Jefferson street, died at 3 p.m. Saturday in Presbyterian hospital of apoplexy at the age of 74 years.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Kistner chapel. The body was taken to Riceville, Ia., for burial in the family plot Wednesday.
James Seaborn Bennett was one of twins born to the seafaring captain. The mother, who had accompained her husband in his quest for whales, died three days after the birth of the twins at the Sandwich Islands. The twin brother, William Seaborn Bennett, died 50 years ago.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. William Parsons, Omoro, Wis., a brother, Dr. G. J. Bennett, 183 Lovejoy ave., two sisters, Dr. Donna Parker, and Dr. Sophia E. Peattle, both of Peoria, Ill., and three grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death on 1920.
