This is my dilemma, I have trace the Garside line back to Samuel Garside. I have discovered that Samuel came to the United States in 1845, he was 13 years old and arrived via the ship Ondiaka, which landed in New Orleans.
He arrived with the following people:
Francis Garside (age 40 at the time)
John Garside (age 20 at the time)
James Garside (age 18 at the time)
Mary Garside (age 9 at the time)
Robert Garside (age 7 at the time)
Joseph Garside (age 4 at the time)The next time I see this same group of people is in the 1850 US census, they are all living in New London Iowa.
The next time I see Samuel, he is living in Monmouth Illinois, which is where he married Nancy Skinner, that is in 1862.
Then in 1870, Samuel and Nancy are living in Adel Iowa, where they remain until the 1885 census, in the 1885 census they are living in Massena.
Anyway, at first I thought that Francis was the mother and all the rest were brothers and sisters, but there is no mention of this single family in the British census records.
Does anyone have any idea who Francis was ? Were they brothers and sisters ?
Does anyone know where they lived in New London ?Any help or information you could provide would be most appreciated.
Dale
