Salem Weekly News – 1/29/1914

Today Salem mourns the death of one of the pioneers---that of Mrs. Sarah Frary, who has endeared herself to old and young by her kindly ways.

Sarah Ovit was born in Trumble County, Ohio April 13, 1822 and died January 211, 1914 at the home of her daughter. In 1845 she was united in marriage with Thomas E. Frary. Four sons and one daughter were born to this home.

In 1854 they came to Iowa and in 1865 to Salem where she has resided since. Mrs. Frary was a staunch Presbyterian, having united with that church in 1853. The husband died in 1886 and since that time she has made her home with her children. Two sons, Mark L. of Salem; Jesse J. of Memphis, Missouri, and one daughter, Mrs. Rue Garretson with grandchildren and great-grandchildren are left to mourn. Two sons, Edgar T. and Cornelius G., died several years ago.

Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Rue Garretson Friday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. O. G. Misamore.
