William Davis
William L. "Bill" Davis, 80, of Dallas City, Ill., died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst, Ill.
Born Sept. 18, 1922, in Smithshire, Ill., he was the son of Harry and Anna Johansen Davis. In 1945, he married Mary Malcome in Media, Ill. They divorced. On July 11, 1970, he married Marlene Porter in Macomb, Ill.
Mr. Davis was manager of the Dallas City Grain Elevator for 47 years. He retired in 1988.
He was a graduate of Corona High School in Corona, Calif., and attended UCLA in Los Angeles. He then graduated from Gem City Business College in Quincy, Ill., with a degree in business and accounting. He was a former member of the Illinois Grain Buyers Association, the Chicago Board of Trade and was a member of First Christian Church in Dallas City.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Julaine Krarup of Mission Viejo, Calif., Laurie Krebill of Donnellson, Christine Guy of Santa Cruz, Calif., Kelley Stevens of Keene, N.H., and Connie Engberg of Mount Pleasant; one son, Kerry Stevens of Dallas City; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Ruby Davis of Murphysboro, Ill., and Betty Jean Kloster of Milan, Ill.; two brothers, Kenneth "Jake" Davis of Smithshire and Otto "Pug" Davis of Ouray, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter.
Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. Friday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Davis will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doug Clark officiating. Burial will be in Harris Cemetery near Dallas City.
A memorial has been established for First Christian Church in Dallas City.
