Jean Angstead
Jean Ross Angstead, 80, of New London, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at her home.
Born July 24, 1921, in Webb City, Mo., she was the daughter of John and Vera Cable Ross. She married Don Angstead on Dec. 23, 1939, in Memphis, Mo. He died April 19, 1977.
Mrs. Angstead attended grade school in Fairfield, Ill., and high school in Mount Pleasant. She worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Sylvania in Burlington and Wainwright Glove Factory in New London and managed the T House in Mediapolis for two years.
She was of the Methodist faith, a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and a charter member of New London VFW Auxiliary 7641. She loved crossword puzzles, reading, embroidering, bird watching and, most of all, her grandchildren. She was an avid Hawkeye fan.
Survivors include one son, Don E. Angstead of New London; two daughters, Karen Brown and Sharon Nehring, both of New London; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; three step-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Cloyd Ross of Carson City, Nev.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Elmer McMillan, and three grandchildren.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today at Elliott Chapel in New London. There will be no family visitation.
The graveside service for Mrs. Angstead will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Kossuth Cemetery, Mediapolis, with Pastor Matt Miller officiating.
A memorial has been established for the New London Rescue Unit.
