Strong Winds Cause Damage
Heavy winds which swept Burlington Wednesday caused injury to Miss Rose Brown, 75, of 929 N. Fifth street, and extensive damage to buildings and homes.
The weather bureau reported wind velocity was 40 to 45 miles per hour at times during the day and evening, the strongest for the month of May since wind recordings were started in 1941.
Miss Brown was standing in the northwest corner of Fourth and Jefferson streets about 4:30 p.m., and was injured when struck by the 4th street awning of Klein’s store, which reportedly was blown down by the wind. She was taken to Burlington hospital by Police Officer Fred Duke.
She suffered scalp lacerations, and while her injuries were reported painful, it was announced X-rays showed no fractures.
