Nellie M. Avery
Nellie M. Avery, 85, of Media, Ill., died at 10:07 a.m. Monday Dec. 18, 1989, at Burlington Medical Center. Born Feb. 1, 1904, near Stronghurst, Ill., she was the daughter of Charles and Susan Washburn Wolford. She married Joe Avery, March 17, 1923, in Fort Madison. He died June 21, 1962

She was a lifelong resident of the Stronghurst and Media communities. She had worked for a short time at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown and was employed for many years by Advance Ross Electronics in Burlington. She was a member of the Stronghurst United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Helen(Lewis)Hobby of Burlington, and Mrs. Shirley(Kendall)Furniss of Media, Ill.; four sons, Charles Avery, of Burlington, Lee Avery of Media, Ill., Eldon Avery of New Hope, Pa., and Larry Avery of Donnellson; two sisters, Mrs. Merle(John)Avery of Kirkwood, Ill., and Mrs. Mary (Hollis) White of La Harpe, Ill.; 27 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call beginning at noon Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at Banks & Beals Funeral Home, in Stronghurst, Ill.

The service for Mrs. Avery will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Banks & Beals, with the Rev. Ernest Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Stronghurst cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Media Presbyterian Church.
