Cecil Pumphrey
Cecil Pumphrey, 87, of Danville, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2005, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
Born Oct. 19, 1917, in Pulaski County, Ky., he was the son of Edwin and Lily Anderson Pumphrey. On Dec. 5, 1945, he married Eula Mae Osborne in Eubank, Ky. She died Dec. 8, 1992.
Mr. Pumphrey moved to the Danville area in 1955, where he farmed for many years.
He was a graduate of Eubank High School. He was a World War II Army veteran and served in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Danville. He enjoyed farming, gardening and traveling.
Survivors include two sons, Doug Pumphrey of Hemet, Calif., and Ron Pumphrey of New Hampton; one daughter, Brenda Grinstead of Danville; five granddaughters; two stepgrandsons; six great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a special friend, Ora Hafferty of Fort Madison.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Pumphrey will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Danville, with Pastor John Fetterhoff officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by New London Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7641 will be in Jaggar Cemetery in Danville.
Memorials have been established for First Baptist Church in Danville and Danville Rescue Unit
