Mr. Charles Mathews died Saturday morning at the Wellington hospital in this city. He was in declining health for the past two years. His illness finally resulted in Bright's disease and other complications. He was 75 years of age and had been deaf and dumb from childhood. Charles Mathews was born in Wayne County, New York, and came with his parents to Lowell in 1838. His father built the first house at that place and was one of the most influential pioneers in territorial days. The annual reunions of the Mathews family are the largest held in this section. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Wellington hospital. Rev. C.W. Wilson will conduct the servicesand the interment will be at the Burge cemetery.
