Howard Waters, 83, of rural Danville, died 4 p.m.; Thursday, Oct. 1, 1992 at his home. Born Feb. 17, 1909, at New London, he was the son of Fred and Lizzie Prickett Waters. He married Ada Mix, Feb. 12, 1936.
Mr. Waters was a farmer for many years and during President Nixon’s administration worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. He served on the board of Iowa Wesleyan College for many years, and was on the board of directors of the Mississippi Valley Savings and Loan. He was past chairman of the Burlington Medical Center Board, past president of the Burlington Kiwanis Club, and the Iowa State Fair Board, was a lifetime member of the Danville Congregational Church, and was a member of the Farm Bureau and S.C.O.R.E.
Survivors include his wife; three brothers, Philo Waters of Denton, Texas, Roger Waters of Portland, Ore., and Ross Waters of Mount Pleasant; two sisters, Winifred Harris of West Burlington, and Pauline Nutsford of Washington; and several nieces and nephews, including a nephew, Johnnie Waters of Bakersfield, Calif., who made his home with the Mr. and Mrs. Waters for many years.
Mr. Waters was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and a sister.
Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel. There will be no visitation.
The funeral for Mr. Waters will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel with the Revs. Gordon McMillan and Fred Harris officiating. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery, rural Danville. A memorial has been established.
