Mrs. Charles Raines Rites Held Monday

Mrs. Charles Raines, 85, who was born in Henry County and spent her life here, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harlan Hunter, south of New London, February 20.

Funeral services were held at the Elliot chapel, Monday morning at 11 o’clock. The Rev. Frank W. Sutton, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiated. Mrs. Jean Riepe and George Elliot, accompanied by Mrs. E.E. Wessel, sang “In the Garden” and “Saved by Grace”. Burial was in Burge Cemetery. Roy Shipley, Wilbur Flam, Ralph Eckles, Milton McCabe, Ray Hobart and Albert McCabe, were pallbearers.

Olive Cook Raines was born in Henry County, April 28, 1862, the daughter of Mary Hand and Henry Cook. December 2, 1883, she was united in marriage at Lowell to Charles Raines. They went on to farm three miles southwest of New London and farmed there until 1917, when they moved to New London. Mr. Raines passed away August 14, 1940.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harlan Hunter; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also, two sisters, Mrs. Harry Summers, New London, and Mrs. Frank Hobbs; Burlington.
